When selecting lamps you have to observe and decide what you need the lamps for. What kind of actions or tasks will be performed in a particular room and what kind of lighting should you provide so the tasks can be successfully completed? Will the room be adequately lighted by the lamp of interest? Do you need to draw attention to a particular design or object? What kind of mood do you want to create? Those are the type of questions you'll have to answer before making a choice.
First let us define an antique lamp as one from a bygone era which is a long indefinite time period. Determination of an antique lamp includes some time period designation normally in the form of "circa year". i.e. "circa 1905" which literally means "about the year 1905". So the term "antique lamp" will be used on this basis and often substituted with the term "vintage".
Second, ask yourself where you plan to use the lamp. If you plan to light a big room with an undecorated wall, a small lamp may feel unnecessarily tiny. A tall lamp may be more appropriate. Of course, if you would like to place a lamp on top of a bookcase in your study, a small lamp may work perfectly.
Choosing the right lamp for your home requires deliberation and knowledge about available options and features. Given the availability of various types of lamps and lighting options such as floor lamps, table lamps, down lighters, recessed lighting, reading lamps, wall lamps, hanging lamps, and chandeliers to name a few, this becomes even more important.
